MASSOB says Nigeria’s unity negotiable

From Tony John, Port Harcourt
THE Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) said the unity of Nigeria was negotiable.

National leader of MASSOB, Chief Solomon Ordu Chukwu, argued that the series of agitations across the country, were enough reason to split the country.
Chukwu who spoke through the Movement’s National Director of Information, Sunday Okereafor, wondered if the country would fight another war before secession.
“In the country now, we have Boko Haram insurgents in the North East, who do not want Western education, but wants everybody to embrace Islam, killing and causing havoc in the entire geo-political zone.
“Also, Fulani herdsmen are terrorising the entire country, killing, kidnapping and raping women at will, and destroying farmlands without government doing something. In the Niger Delta, we have the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), whose activities are akin to the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), holding the nation’s economy in ransom.
“In South-East, MASSOB, in its non-violent campaign, has sustained the struggle. With all these agitations, how can it be said the the unity of the country is not negotiable? It needs to be negotiated because we cannot deceive ourselves that the country is one,” Chukwu said.
He restated MASSOB’s non-violent position, stressing that, as a non-political organisation, it would not defend or support the activities of politicians
