The 27-year-old Newmarket Town player had been helping a friend change a flat tyre when the collision happened.
A motorist has pleaded guilty to causing a crash which resulted in a footballer having both his legs amputated.
Shaun Whiter, 27, was helping his friend Joey Abbs to
change a flat tyre in Newmarket, Suffolk, when a Ford Focus hit their
cars on 1 July.The Newmarket Town player had to have his legs amputated at the knee and Mr Abbs, who played football for Cambridgeshire club Soham Town Rangers, suffered a serious leg injury in the crash.
He is due to be sentenced on 9 September.
A JustGiving page set up to raise funds for Mr Winter, who worked as an estate agent in Stansted, Essex, has already topped more than £80,000.
The keen sportsman, who is due to marry his fiancee Charlotte Way next July, has already said he plans to take part in the Paralympics in the future.
The Tottenham Hotspur supporter has also been hailed "an inspiration" by the manager of the London side.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino sent him a letter praising his "incredible courage"
