Ondo guber: How pdp candidate will emerge

From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has hinted that its candidate for the November 26 governorship election will be produced through a primary election where 800 delegates from all the 18 local government areas in the state will participate.

The state Chairman of the party, Engr. Clement Faboyede who debunked rumours of a parallel faction of the party in the state said the delegates for the primary election will emerge through voting.
He said the 800 delegates who will be drawn from all the 204 wards in the state will determine who will be the party’s candidate.
Faboyede disclosed that three delegates from each of the 204 wards in the state will participate in the primary election which will be conducted by the national secretariat of the party.
He debunked insinuations that the leadership of the party has vested interest in one of the governorship aspirants of the party, saying that  all the aspirants will be given equal treatment by the party.
“PDP is the party of the masses, the party for the rich and the poor. We need somebody who will continue with the building of markets for our women, building of more Mega Schools and Mother and Child hospitals,” he stressed.
The PDP chieftain assured that the crisis rocking the party at the national level will soon be overcome with the efforts put in place by some stakeholders in the party.
Meanwhile, a leading gubernatorial aspirant of the party, Mr Eyitayo Jegede has reiterated the need for the continuation of the programmes and policies of the Governor Olusegun Mimiko led administration, and therefore called on the people to support the PDP in the forthcoming election.
Speaking at the party’s secretariat in Akure after submitting his nomination form, Jegede who is the former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state  said the PDP is the only political party in the state that can cater for the welfare of the masses.
He enjoined the people of the state not to allow any opposition party to truncate the good programmes of Mimiko after leaving office in February next year.
